Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to keep so that it can recognise you later. Similar technologies — local storage, tracking pixels, device fingerprinting, advertising identifiers — do much the same job. This page says which of them OnRoute uses. The short answer is none, apart from one security cookie our website's host may set when it has to.
1. Our website
onroutelabs.com does not set any cookies, and it does not use local storage or any other way of keeping information on your device. It does not run any analytics script, advertising tag or social-media plugin, and it loads its fonts and pictures from itself, not from anyone else.
The site is served by Cloudflare. Cloudflare receives your IP address in order to deliver the pages, as any web host does, and keeps aggregate traffic figures (such as how many requests arrived, and from which countries) from its own records. If Cloudflare needs to check that a visitor is a person rather than an automated program, it may set a short-lived security cookie: __cf_bm, which lasts 30 minutes, or cf_clearance, after a challenge. These are strictly necessary to protect the site, don't identify you and aren't used for anything else. Cloudflare's own policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
2. Drive and story pages
This week's drive and travellers' stories are served from api.onroutelabs.com. Those pages set no cookies and run no scripts. They show photographs of places supplied by Google, which your browser loads from Google's servers, and fonts from onroutelabs.com.
3. The App
The App does not use cookies, and it doesn't use your device's advertising identifier or ask to track you across other companies' apps. It keeps your trips and preferences on your phone so that it works offline; they stay there until you delete them or uninstall the App.
When you tap a booking or shopping link, the partner's website opens in your browser and may set its own cookies; its policy applies there. See section 2.3 of our Privacy Policy.
4. Is there anything to accept?
No. Nothing is kept on your device except what the site or the App strictly needs to work, so there is nothing to accept or refuse, and no cookie banner. If that ever changes, we will ask first and update this page.
